Throw Another Soy Log on the Fire

Farmed Fuels developed SwitchFire Logs, a new fire log made partially from soy.

The log is made of more than 50 percent soy with the remainder composed of switchgrass. The log’s composition of pressed grass and soy wax causes a slow burn. The wax burns off, so it does not leave a residue in your fireplace. The company even claims the log emits a sweet smell as it burns.

“The soybean checkoff supports a wide variety of new uses for soy,” says Todd Allen, United Soybean Board (USB) New Uses chair and a soybean farmer from West Memphis, Ark. “Products like the SwitchFire Log are great examples of how soy can be used as an environmentally friendly product, without losing performance, in a number of different industries.”

The environmentally friendly log can be used in indoor wood-burning stoves, fireplaces and outdoor fire pits, as well as campfires. The logs are round and 4 inches in diameter and weigh about 5 pounds each.
